Adhyāya 180: Jīva, Śarīra, and the Fire Analogy (भृगु–भरद्वाज संवादः)

न संनिपतितं धर्म्यमुपभोगं यदृच्छया । प्रत्याचक्षे न चाप्येनमनुरुध्ये सुदुर्लभम्‌,“यदि दैववश मुझे कोई धर्मानुकूल भोग्य पदार्थ प्राप्त हो जाय तो मैं उससे द्वेष नहीं करता हूँ और प्राप्त न होनेपर किसी दुर्लभ भोगकी भी कभी इच्छा नहीं करता

na saṁnipatitaṁ dharmyam upabhogaṁ yadṛcchayā | pratyācakṣe na cāpy enam anurudhye sudurlabham ||

Bhishma said: “If, by chance, a righteous enjoyment or an object of enjoyment comes to me, I do not reject it out of aversion. And when it does not come, I do not chase after it—nor do I long for some hard-to-obtain pleasure. Thus one should remain steady, accepting what arrives in accordance with dharma and letting go of craving for what is absent.”
