अध्याय १७८ — प्राणवायुगतिः तथा शारीराग्निव्यवस्था
Adhyāya 178 — The courses of prāṇa-vāyu and the regulation of the bodily fire
परित्यजामि काम व्वां हित्वा सर्वमनोगती: । न त्वं मया पुन: काम वत्स्यसे न च रंस्यसे
parityajāmi kāma tvāṃ hitvā sarva-manogatīḥ | na tvaṃ mayā punaḥ kāma vatsyase na ca raṃsyase ||
Bhīṣma said: “O Kāma (Desire), casting aside every movement and inclination of my mind, I renounce you. Never again will you dwell with me, nor will you find any delight in me.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse teaches mastery over desire by withdrawing the mind from its habitual impulses and decisively renouncing craving; ethical steadiness begins with inner governance rather than external circumstance.
Bhīṣma addresses Kāma as a personified force and declares a firm break from it, stating that desire will no longer reside in him or find enjoyment through him—an emphatic vow of inner renunciation.
