Adhyāya 166: Kṛtaghna-doṣa (कृतघ्नदोषः) — the fault of ingratitude and the limits of expiation

भवेत्तु मानुषेष्वेवं प्रायश्ित्तमनुत्तमम् । दानं वा दानशक्तिषु सर्वमेतत् प्रकल्पयेत्
Translation
Bhishma said: Thus is ordained for human beings the most excellent form of expiation (prāyaścitta). And for those who have the means to give, a rule of charitable giving is also prescribed. All these acts of atonement should be undertaken with careful deliberation.
