अवाचिनोति कर्माणि न च सम्प्रचिनोति ह । सम: सर्वेषु भूतेषु मैत्रायणगतिक्चरेत्‌,वह उपभोगद्वारा प्रारब्ध-कर्मोंकोी क्षीण करता है और कर्तृत्वाभिमान तथा फलासक्तिसे शून्य होनेके कारण नूतन कर्मोका संचय नहीं करता है। सभी प्राणियोंमें समानभाव रखकर सबको मित्रकी भाँति अभयदान देता हुआ विचरता है

Transliteration

avācinoti karmāṇi na ca sampracīnōti ha | samaḥ sarveṣu bhūteṣu maitrāyaṇagatiś caret ||

Translation

Bhishma said: He merely exhausts the deeds already set in motion, and he does not accumulate new deeds. Remaining even-minded toward all beings, he moves through the world with a friendly disposition—granting fearlessness to all as to a friend.
