सत्त्वं रजस्तम इति मानसाः: स्युस्त्रयो गुणा: । तेषां गुणानां साम्य॑ं यत्तदाहु: स्वस्थलक्षणम्‌,'सत्त्व, रज और तम--ये तीन मानसिक गुण हैं। इन तीनों गुणोंका सम अवस्थामें रहना मानसिक स्वास्थ्यका लक्षण बताया गया है

sattvaṃ rajastama iti mānasāḥ syus trayo guṇāḥ | teṣāṃ guṇānāṃ sāmyam yat tad āhuḥ svasthalakṣaṇam ||

Vaiśampāyana said: Sattva, rajas, and tamas are the three qualities of the mind. When these qualities remain in equilibrium, that balanced state is declared to be the mark of mental well-being.
