एवं विद्वानदीनात्मा व्यसनस्थो जिजीविषु: । सर्वोपायैरुपायज्ञो दीनमात्मानमुद्धरेत्,राजन! इस प्रकार संकटमें पड़कर जीवनकी रक्षा चाहनेवाले विद्वान् पुरुषको दीनचित्त न होकर कोई उपाय दढूँढ़ निकालना चाहिये और सभी उपायोंसे अपने आपका आपत्कालमें परिस्थितिसे उद्धार करना चाहिये
evaṁ vidvān adīnātmā vyasanastho jijīviṣuḥ | sarvopāyair upāyajño dīnam ātmānam uddharet, rājan ||
Bhīṣma said: “Thus, a wise man who has fallen into calamity yet wishes to preserve life should not sink into dejection. Knowing the means, he should search out a workable remedy by every possible method and, in a time of distress, rescue himself from the situation.”
भीष्म उवाच
In adversity, a wise person should not become despondent; instead, using knowledge of practical means, he should actively seek and employ every suitable remedy to protect life and recover from the crisis.
In the Śānti Parva dialogue, Bhīṣma instructs the king (Yudhiṣṭhira) on conduct and policy; here he emphasizes resourceful action and mental steadiness when one is trapped in misfortune and must navigate an emergency.
