Brahmadatta said: When the ruler of a land is virtuous and guided by dharma, then the wife, the country, friends, sons, and kinsmen bound by relationship—all these flourish and become endowed with good qualities. The king’s righteousness becomes the moral axis that elevates the character and well-being of the entire social circle and realm.
ब्रह्मदत्त उवाच
The moral quality of governance shapes society: a king who is virtuous and dharma-guided uplifts the character and welfare of family, friends, kin, and the entire realm.
Brahmadatta is stating a principle of rājadharma in the Shanti Parva: the ruler’s righteousness directly influences the prosperity and virtue of those connected to him and of the country he governs.
