Dasyu-maryādā and Buddhi-guided Rāja-nīti (दस्युमर्यादा तथा बुद्धिप्रधान-राजनीति)
ततो<गच्छत् परां वृद्धिं राजपुत्र: फलाशनात् । ततः स धात्र्या कक्षेण उह्मुमानो नृपात्मज:
tato ’gacchat parāṁ vṛddhiṁ rājaputraḥ phalāśanāt | tataḥ sa dhātryā kakṣeṇa ūhūmāno nṛpātmajaḥ ||
Then, sustained on a diet of fruits, the prince began to thrive and grow strong. After that, the king’s son—carried close in the nurse’s embrace—was borne along, carefully tended as he advanced in health and stature.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights the dharmic duty of nurturing and protecting the young: proper, simple nourishment and attentive caregiving enable a child—especially one of royal responsibility—to flourish.
Bhīṣma describes a prince who grows and thrives on a fruit-based diet, and then is carried and tended closely by his nurse, indicating careful upbringing and protection.
