तूष्णीं भव न ते सौम्य त्वरा कार्या न सम्भ्रम: | वयमेवात्र कालज्ञा न काल: परिहास्यते
tūṣṇīṃ bhava na te saumya tvarā kāryā na sambhramaḥ | vayam evātra kālajñā na kālaḥ parihāsyate ||
Bhishma said: “Be silent, gentle one. There is no need for haste, nor for agitation. Here, we ourselves understand the proper time; Time is not something to be treated lightly.”
भीष्म उवाच
Maintain composure and restraint; do not rush or panic. Wise action depends on understanding the right moment (kāla), and Time/destiny should never be treated frivolously.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction-setting, Bhishma addresses a listener with calming counsel, urging silence and steadiness, emphasizing that those present know the proper timing and that one must not make light of Time’s power.
