न ते सौम्य भयं कार्य जीविष्यसि यथासुखम्‌ | अहं त्वामुद्धरिष्यामि यदि मां न जिघांससि,'सौम्य! तुम्हें डरना नहीं चाहिये। तुम आनन्दपूर्वक जीवित रह सकोगे। यदि मुझे मार डालनेकी इच्छा त्याग दो तो मैं इस संकटसे तुम्हारा उद्धार कर दूँगा

na te saumya bhayaṁ kārya jīviṣyasi yathāsukham | ahaṁ tvām uddhariṣyāmi yadi māṁ na jighāṁsasi ||

Bhīṣma said: “Gentle one, you need not be afraid. You will live in comfort and peace. If you abandon the wish to kill me, I will rescue you from this peril.”
