Bhīṣma said: “As he wandered about in that forest with growing confidence, searching for food, after a long time he finally noticed the baited flesh that had been strewn upon the snare. Climbing onto the trap, the mouse began to eat the meat.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse illustrates how unchecked hunger and overconfidence (trust without vigilance) can lead one into a snare; ethical discernment includes caution toward alluring gains that may conceal harm.
A mouse, roaming confidently in the forest while searching for food, finally spots meat laid out as bait on a trap and climbs onto it to eat.
