Sandhi–Vigraha in Āpada: The Mouse and the Cat (सन्धिविग्रहापदि—मूषकमार्जारसंवादः)
मधुमांसैर्मूलफलैरन्नैरुच्चावचैरपि । सत्कृत्य भोजयामास मान्यान् परिचचार च
madhumāṁsair mūlaphalair annair uccāvacair api | satkṛtya bhojayāmāsa mānyān paricacāra ca ||
Bhishma said: With honey and meat, with roots and fruits, and with various kinds of food besides, that Niṣāda respectfully fed his mother and father; and he also attended upon and served other worthy and honorable persons. The passage highlights a life of dutiful care and hospitality, where reverence toward parents and service to the respectable are treated as concrete expressions of dharma.
भीष्म उवाच
Dharma is shown through tangible conduct: honoring and feeding one’s parents and serving those worthy of respect. Ethical life is expressed as reverent care, hospitality, and attentive service.
Bhishma describes a Niṣāda who provides his parents with varied foods—honey, meat, roots, fruits, and other dishes—doing so respectfully, and who also regularly serves other honorable people.
