Āśā-prabhava (आशाप्रभव) — On the Rise and Power of Hope/Expectation
Sumitra Itihāsa Begins
iti prakāraḥ śrī-mahābhārate śānti-parvaṇi antargata-rājadharmānuśāsana-parvaṇi kāmandaka-āṅgariṣṭha-saṃvāda-viṣayaka eka-śata-trayoviṃśat-tamo 'dhyāyaḥ pūrṇaḥ
Thus ends the one-hundred-and-twenty-third chapter of the Mahābhārata’s Śānti Parva, within the section on the instruction of royal duties (Rājadharmānuśāsana), concerning the dialogue between Kāmandaka and Āṅgariṣṭha.
कामन्दक उवाच
This line is a colophon rather than a doctrinal verse: it signals the completion of a chapter devoted to rājadharma—ethical and practical instruction for rulers—framed as a dialogue between Kāmandaka and Āṅgariṣṭha.
The text formally closes the chapter, identifying its placement within the Śānti Parva and within the rājadharma instructional section, and naming the dialogue-participants whose discussion constituted the chapter’s content.
