एवं मयूरवद् राजा स्वराज्यं परिपालयेत् | आत्मवृद्धिकरीं नीतिं विदधीत विचक्षण:,इसी प्रकार बुद्धिमान् राजा अपने स्थानकी रक्षा करनेवाले मोरके समान अपने राज्यका भलीभाँति पालन करे तथा उसी नीतिका आश्रय ले, जो अपनी उन्नतिमें सहायक हो
evaṁ mayūravad rājā svarājyaṁ paripālayet | ātmavṛddhikarīṁ nītiṁ vidadhīta vicakṣaṇaḥ ||
Bhishma said: “Thus, like the peacock that vigilantly safeguards its own place, a discerning king should carefully protect and govern his realm. He should adopt that policy of statecraft which promotes his own growth—strengthening his position and prosperity—so that his rule remains secure and well-ordered.”
