यस्त्रयोदशवर्षाणि गदया कृतनिश्रम: । चरत्यूर्थध्व च तिर्यक्ू च भीमसेनजिघांसया,कहीं ऐसा न हो कि हमारे जीते हुए राज्यको दुर्योधन फिर हड़प ले। उसने तेरह वर्षोंतक गदाद्वारा युद्ध करनेका निरन्तर श्रम एवं अभ्यास किया है। देखो, यह भीमसेनके वधकी इच्छासे इधर-उधर और ऊपरकी ओर विचर रहा है
yas trayodaśa-varṣāṇi gadayā kṛta-niśramaḥ | caraty ūrdhvaṃ ca tiryak ca bhīmasena-jighāṃsayā ||
Vāyu said: “For thirteen years he has undergone unbroken toil and practice with the mace. Now, driven by the desire to slay Bhīmasena, he roams about—moving upward and sideways—seeking an opening.”
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse highlights how long discipline and technical mastery in warfare can be driven by inner intention; here, sustained practice is harnessed not for protection of dharma but for a targeted, violent resolve, underscoring the ethical weight of motive behind skill.
Vāyu describes a warrior who has trained continuously with the mace for thirteen years and is now maneuvering—moving upward and sideways—seeking a chance to kill Bhīmasena.
