Vaiśampāyana said: “O brāhmaṇa, best among ascetics, the agreement you set for me has been fulfilled; I have stayed with you according to that condition. May auspiciousness attend you; may you be well. Now grant me leave—I depart.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse foregrounds dharma as fidelity to a mutually set condition (samaya) and the ethical closure of an obligation: once the stipulated term is completed, one seeks proper leave, offers blessings, and departs without deceit or overstay.
A speaker (reported by Vaiśampāyana) addresses a brāhmaṇa-ascetic, stating that the agreed condition has been satisfied (“I have stayed as per your stipulation”), then offers auspicious benedictions and requests permission to depart.
