Balarāma’s Pilgrimage Context
जैगीषव्ये तपश्चास्य प्रशंसन्ति तपस्विन: । तब बृहस्पति आदि सब देवता और तपस्वी वहाँ आकर जैगीषव्य मुनिके तपकी प्रशंसा करने लगे
jaigīṣavye tapaś cāsya praśaṃsanti tapasvinaḥ |
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: The ascetics there praised the austerities of Jaigīṣavya; and Bṛhaspati and the other gods, together with the sages, came to that place and extolled the muni’s tapas—affirming that spiritual discipline, when steadfast and pure, becomes worthy of reverence even for the divine.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
True tapas—disciplined, sustained spiritual practice—commands respect across all levels of existence; even gods honor the moral and spiritual authority generated by genuine austerity.
The narrator reports that sages/ascetics praise Jaigīṣavya’s austerities, and Bṛhaspati along with other deities arrive and join in commending the muni’s tapas.
