Kārttikeya-Abhiṣecana: Mātṛgaṇa-Nāma Saṃkīrtana and Skanda’s Commission
महात्मा त्वग्निपुत्राय महाबलपराक्रमौ । महामना मेरुने ही अग्निपुत्र कार्तिकेयको स्थिर और अतिस्थिर नामक दो पार्षद और दिये। वे दोनों महान् बल और पराक्रमसे सम्पन्न थे
mahātmā tv agniputrāya mahābala-parākramau | mahāmanā meruṇe hi agniputraḥ kārtikeyaḥ sthiraṃ cāti-sthiraṃ nāmakaṃ dvau pārṣadau dadau | tau ubhau mahān bala-parākrama-sampannau āsatām |
Vaiśampāyana said: The great-souled one bestowed upon Agni’s son, Kārtikeya, two attendants named Sthira and Ati-sthira. Both were endowed with extraordinary strength and heroic prowess. The passage shows how divine and exalted beings appoint capable aides to uphold order and effectiveness in their sacred duties.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Competent service supports righteous order: even exalted leaders rely on steadfast, powerful attendants, highlighting the ethical value of steadiness (sthira) and reliable support in fulfilling duty.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Kārtikeya, called Agni’s son, is given two attendants named Sthira and Ati-sthira, both renowned for great strength and valor, indicating his retinue and the empowerment of his mission.
