Kārttikeya-Abhiṣecana: Mātṛgaṇa-Nāma Saṃkīrtana and Skanda’s Commission
उस समय इन्द्रसहित सम्पूर्ण देवताओं, गन्धर्वों, यक्षों, राक्षसों, मुनियों तथा पितरोंने जय-जयकार किया ।।
tataḥ prādād anucarī yamaḥ kālopamau ubhau | unmāthaś ca pramāthaś ca mahāvīryau mahādyutī |
Then Yama granted him two attendants—Unmātha and Pramātha—both resembling Time itself in their dread power, endowed with great valor and blazing splendor. The scene underscores how cosmic authority endorses and equips the divinely appointed leader: strength is not merely personal prowess but a responsibility sanctioned by higher order, meant to uphold dharma through disciplined service.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Power and leadership are portrayed as legitimate when sanctioned by cosmic justice (Yama) and directed toward maintaining dharma; the attendants symbolize disciplined force placed in service of rightful order rather than personal whim.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Yama bestows two formidable attendants, Unmātha and Pramātha, described as time-like in might and radiant in splendor, indicating divine reinforcement of the central figure being honored in the surrounding episode.
