Vaiśaṃpāyana said: The venerable sage, satisfied by the renunciation and austerities of his sons, departed after a long time to a realm befitting his own spiritual stature—his proper abode in heaven.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights that renunciation (tyāga) and disciplined austerity (tapas) are spiritually efficacious: they bring contentment to the wise and culminate in an end ‘befitting one’s own merit’—a moral causality linking conduct to destiny.
Vaiśaṃpāyana narrates that the revered sage Gautama, pleased with his sons’ renunciation and austerities, departs after a long time to his appropriate heavenly abode (svarga-loka), marking a closure or transition in the episode.
