Trita in the Well (Udapāna-kathā) — Balarāma’s Tīrtha Observances
तास्तु सर्वाब्रवीद् दक्षो गच्छध्वं शशिनो5न्तिकम् | सम॑ वत्स्यति सर्वासु चन्द्रमा मम शासनात्,फिर दक्षने उन सभी कन्याओंसे कहा--“अब तुमलोग चन्द्रमाके पास ही जाओ। वे मेरी आज्ञासे तुम सब लोगोंके प्रति समानभाव रखेंगे”
tāstu sarvābravīd dakṣo gacchadhvaṁ śaśino ’ntikam | samaṁ vatsyati sarvāsu candramā mama śāsanāt ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Then Dakṣa addressed all of them, “Go now to the Moon’s presence. By my command, Candramā will dwell with equal regard toward each of you.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Impartiality (samatā) is a dharmic requirement: when favoritism harms communal or familial balance, legitimate authority may intervene to restore fairness and harmony.
Dakṣa instructs all the women to return to Candramā, assuring them that the Moon will treat them equally because Dakṣa has issued a binding command.
