अध्याय ९ — दुर्योधनस्य अन्त्यावस्था, विलापः, तथा सौप्तिक-प्रतिवृत्तम्
Duryodhana’s Final Condition, Lamentation, and the Night’s Report
राजेन्द्र! उन्होंने देखा कि राजाकी जाँचें टूट गयी हैं। ये बड़े कष्टसे प्राण धारण करते हैं। इनकी चेतना लुप्त-सी हो गयी है और ये अपने मुँहसे पृथ्वीपर खून उगल रहे हैं। इन्हें चट कर जानेके लिये बहुत-से भयंकर दिखायी देनेवाले हिंसक जीव और कुत्ते चारों ओरसे घेरकर आसपास ही खड़े हैं। ये अपनेको खा जानेकी इच्छा रखनेवाले उन हिंसक जन्तुओंको बड़ी कठिनाईसे रोकते हैं। इन्हें बड़ी भारी पीड़ा हो रही है, जिसके कारण ये पृथ्वीपर पड़े-पड़े छटपटा रहे हैं ।। त॑ शयानं तथा दृष्टवा भूमौ सुरुधिरोक्षितम् । हतशिष्टास्त्रयो वीरा: शोकार्ता: पर्यवारयन्
taṁ śayānaṁ tathā dṛṣṭvā bhūmau surudhirokṣitam | hataśiṣṭās trayo vīrāḥ śokārtāḥ paryavārayan ||
Sañjaya said: Seeing him lying thus upon the ground, drenched in blood, the three surviving warriors—grief-stricken—stood around him. The scene underscores the moral wreckage of war: even the victors are left encircled by sorrow, confronted with the suffering body of a fallen king and the irreversible consequences of violence.
