Adhyāya 6: Śibira-dvāra-sthita Bhūta-varṇana and Aśvatthāmā’s Śaraṇāgati to Mahādeva

तत:ः खड्गवरं धीमान्‌ भूताय प्राहिणोत्‌ तदा

tataḥ khaḍgavaraṃ dhīmān bhūtāya prāhiṇot tadā

Then the wise one, at that very moment, hurled a choice sword at the being. In the ominous setting of the night-raid, violence is turned not only upon human foes but toward a fearsome presence, laying bare the moral darkness and the rising brutality of the Sauptika episode.
