Aśvatthāmā’s Buddhi-Doctrine and Nocturnal Incursion Resolve (अश्वत्थाम्नः बुद्धिविचारः सौप्तिकसंकल्पश्च)

एवं कार्यस्य योगार्थ बुद्धि कुर्वन्ति मानवा: । प्रज्ञया हि स्वया युक्तास्तां च निन्दन्ति मानवा:,'प्रभो! जैसे कुशल वैद्य विधिपूर्वक रोगकी जानकारी प्राप्त करके उसकी शान्तिके लिये योग्यतानुसार औषध प्रदान करता है, इसी प्रकार मनुष्य कार्यकी सिद्धिके लिये अपनी विवेकशक्तिसे विचार करके किसी निश्चयात्मक बुद्धिका आश्रय लेते हैं; परंतु दूसरे लोग उसकी निन्दा करने लगते हैं

evaṁ kāryasya yogārthaṁ buddhiṁ kurvanti mānavāḥ | prajñayā hi svayā yuktās tāṁ ca nindanti mānavāḥ ||

Thus, for the sake of accomplishing an undertaking, people form a decisive plan. Yet even when one is guided by one’s own discernment, other men still go on to censure that very resolve.
