Seeing King Dhṛtarāṣṭra—lord of men—seated and sunk in anxious thought, breathing long sighs and unable to steady his mind, Sañjaya spoke to him in these words.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical weight of kingship: inner agitation and troubled breathing signal a conscience under strain. It frames the need for wise counsel and self-control when power is entangled with attachment and fear.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Sañjaya observes Dhṛtarāṣṭra seated in deep worry, sighing and mentally unsettled, and then begins to address him.
