“Daughter, you should not give way to grief, even after meeting with this great calamity. You understand the duties proper to women, and you are one who upholds good character and right conduct as well.”
वैशमग्पायन उवाच
The verse counsels restraint in sorrow during crisis, grounding emotional steadiness in dharma: one who knows proper duties and maintains good conduct should not be overwhelmed by misfortune.
Vaiśaṃpāyana addresses a young woman as “daughter,” consoling her after a major calamity and affirming her knowledge of strīdharma and her established good character, urging her not to succumb to grief.
