सहदेव निवर्तस्व ननु त्वमसि मे प्रिय: । शरीरादपि माद्रेय मा मा त्याक्षी: कुपुत्रवत्,माद्रीनन्दन सहदेव! तुम मुझे अपने शरीरसे भी अधिक प्रिय हो। बेटा! लौट आओ। कुपुत्रकी भाँति मेरा त्याग न करो
sahadeva nivartasva nanu tvam asi me priyaḥ | śarīrād api mādreya mā mā tyākṣīḥ kuputravat ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: “Sahadeva, turn back. Surely you are dear to me—dearer even than my own body, O son of Mādrī. Do not abandon me like an unfilial son.”
वैशमग्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores the ethical weight of filial responsibility and loyalty: one should not abandon those who love and depend on them, and ‘leaving like a kuputra’ is presented as a moral failing.
