Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Sabhā Parva, in the Dyūta (Gambling) section, the seventy-third chapter—concerning Yudhiṣṭhira’s departure for Indraprastha, preceded by the granting of boons by Dhṛtarāṣṭra—comes to its close.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
As a chapter-colophon, the verse highlights the framing of events: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s boons enable Yudhiṣṭhira’s movement back toward Indraprastha, illustrating how royal authority can temporarily correct or soften crises. Ethically, it points to the tension between expedient political remedies (boons, concessions) and deeper accountability for wrongdoing that may still remain.
The narrator (Vaiśampāyana) marks the end of the seventy-third chapter within the Dyūta section of the Sabhā Parva, summarizing its topic: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s granting of boons and the matter of Yudhiṣṭhira’s departure/going to Indraprastha.
