Duryodhana says: “Seeing this, even after reflecting carefully, I cannot find peace, O hero of the Kurus. Therefore I have fallen into such emaciation—my color and luster have faded, and I am overwhelmed with grief.”

Educational Q&A

Unchecked envy and fixation on others’ success destroys inner peace: even careful reflection cannot soothe a mind ruled by jealousy, leading to physical and emotional deterioration.

In the Sabha Parva context, Duryodhana reacts to what he has witnessed in the royal assembly—others’ rising fortune and honor—and confesses that it has robbed him of peace, making him pale, weak, and grief-stricken.
