Rājasūyābhiṣeka-darśana: Duryodhana’s Observation of the Consecration

Vaiśampāyana said: “Costly beds, charming women, well-appointed mansions, and pleasure-gardens that grant enjoyment as one wishes—like the gods, all these are surely within your reach merely by a word of command. O my unassailable son, why then do you grieve like a destitute man?”
External abundance—luxury, sensual pleasures, and royal comforts—does not automatically remove inner sorrow; the verse implicitly critiques attachment and points to the mismatch between power/wealth and mental contentment.
The speaker lists the readily available royal pleasures and comforts that the addressed prince can obtain by mere command, then rebukes him for grieving as though he were helpless or impoverished.
