Vaiśaṃpāyana said: O lord of the people, O king—after making a solemn pledge in the assembled court, Dharmarāja, together with his brothers, duly offered the prescribed libations to the gods and to the ancestral fathers, in accordance with proper rule.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even when making public pledges in a political setting, a righteous king must not neglect dharma expressed as prescribed duties—especially reverence to gods and ancestors. The verse links ethical resolve (samaya) with disciplined ritual conduct (yathānyāya tarpaṇa).
In the royal assembly, Dharmarāja makes a formal pledge and, along with his brothers, performs the proper offerings of satisfaction (tarpaṇa) to the deities and to the ancestral fathers, emphasizing orderly conduct and legitimacy in a public moment.
