Vaiśampāyana said: Seeing him, King Yudhiṣṭhira—surrounded by his brothers—rose quickly from his seat and, offering the customary water for washing the feet and presenting a seat, duly honored the revered grandsire Vyāsa.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic conduct: one should promptly rise and offer respectful hospitality—such as a seat and pādya—to elders and spiritual authorities, expressing humility and proper regard.
As Vyāsa arrives, Yudhiṣṭhira, accompanied by his brothers, immediately stands up from his seat and performs the formal acts of welcome—offering foot-water and a seat—thereby honoring Vyāsa appropriately.
