Adhyāya 45 — Duryodhana’s Distress, Śakuni’s Counsel, and the Summons for Dyūta
tam uvācaivam uktas tu dharmarājo janārdanam | tava prasādād govinda prāptaḥ kratuvaro mayā ||
When this had been said, Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira addressed Janārdana: “Govinda, by your grace alone I have obtained and completed this excellent sacrifice.”
The verse highlights humility and the ethic of attributing success to divine grace rather than personal pride: even a righteous king regards great achievements—especially sacred rites—as fulfilled through Govinda’s favor.
In the Sabha Parva context surrounding the great royal sacrifice, Yudhiṣṭhira responds to Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana), acknowledging that the successful completion and excellence of the yajña is due to Kṛṣṇa’s support and blessing.
