Adhyāya 32: Rājasūya-Dīkṣā and Appointment of Court Offices (राजसूयदीक्षा तथा अधिकारविनियोगः)
तत्र युद्ध महच्चासीच्छूरैर्मत्तमयूरकै: । मरुभूमिं स कार्त्स्न्येन तथैव बहुधान्यकम्
tatra yuddhaṁ mahac cāsīc chūrair mattamayūrakaiḥ | marubhūmiṁ sa kārtsnyena tathaiva bahudhānyakam ||
Vaiśampāyana said: There a great battle took place with the valiant Kṣatriya heroes known as the Mattamayūras. Having then brought the entire desert-region under his control, he likewise subdued the land called Bahudhānyaka.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the Kṣatriya ethic that sovereignty and order are established through disciplined effort and valor in battle; control over territory is portrayed as the outcome of fulfilling royal duty rather than mere entitlement.
A fierce battle occurs against the Mattamayūra warriors; afterward the conqueror (in this campaign context, Nakula) brings the desert region (Marubhūmi) and the land called Bahudhānyaka under his control.
