bhagadatta uvāca—kuntīmātaryathā me tvaṃ tathā rājā yudhiṣṭhiraḥ | sarvam etat kariṣyāmi ki cānyat karavāṇi te ||
Bhagadatta said: “O son of Kuntī, to me you are as dear and as worthy as King Yudhiṣṭhira. I will do all this. Tell me—what else shall I do for you?”
भगदत्त उवाच
The verse foregrounds political-ethical conduct: a ruler’s pledged word and respectful regard for rightful kingship. Bhagadatta frames his commitment as loyalty to dharmic authority—treating the addressed Pāṇḍava as equal in worth to Yudhiṣṭhira—and offers further service, emphasizing responsibility and honor in alliances.
Bhagadatta responds to a Pāṇḍava (addressed as Kuntī’s son), declaring that he values him as he values King Yudhiṣṭhira. He promises to fulfill what has been asked and invites an additional request, signaling readiness to support and act in accordance with the Pāṇḍavas’ needs.
