अर्जुनस्य दिग्विजयारम्भः — Arjuna Initiates the Northern Campaign and Secures Bhagadattta’s Tribute
अवमुच्य किरीटं स केशान् समनुगृहा[ च । उदतिष्ठज्जरासंधो वेलातिग इवार्णव:,जरासंधने किरीट उतारकर केशोंको कसकर बाँध लिया। तत्पश्चात् वह युद्धके लिये उठकर खड़ा हो गया; मानो महासागर अपनी मर्यादा--तटवर्तिनी भूमिको लाँघ जानेको उद्यत हो गया हो
avamucya kirīṭaṃ sa keśān samanugṛhya ca | udatiṣṭhaj jarāsandho velātiga ivārṇavaḥ ||
Casting off his crown and tightening his hair, Jarāsandha rose to fight—like the ocean swelling to overstep its shoreline limits.
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच
The simile of the ocean crossing its shore suggests that martial energy and ambition, if unchecked, can transgress proper limits; dharma requires restraint even amid kṣatriya valor.
Jarāsandha, preparing for combat, removes his crown and tightens his hair, then rises ready to fight, compared to a vast ocean swelling as though to overrun its boundary.
