Karna’s Suppression of the Panchala–Somaka Forces

Sañjaya said: Having arrayed and steadied the army of your son, the mighty-armed Karṇa then advanced to meet the Pāṇḍavas, who were intoxicated with the fury of battle.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined leadership in war: force must be properly organized before action, and a warrior-leader meets the opponent directly. Ethically, it hints at how war can inflame pride and frenzy (yuddha-durmada), a state that clouds judgment and intensifies conflict.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Karṇa first stabilizes and arranges Duryodhana’s army formation, and then advances to confront the Pāṇḍavas, who are described as battle-maddened and formidable in the ongoing Kurukṣetra war.
