Karna’s Suppression of the Panchala–Somaka Forces
उलूकस्तु रणे क्रुद्ध:/ सहदेवेन वारित:
ulūkas tu raṇe kruddhaḥ sahadevena vāritaḥ
Sañjaya said: In the thick of battle, Ulūka—burning with anger—was checked and held back by Sahadeva, his advance being thwarted in the clash of arms.
संजय उवाच
Even amid war, uncontrolled anger meets resistance; the verse highlights the ethical counterforce of restraint—an enraged warrior’s impulse is checked by a capable opponent, reminding that passion does not guarantee success.
Sañjaya reports that Ulūka, furious in the battle, is stopped by Sahadeva—indicating a direct confrontation where Sahadeva blocks Ulūka’s movement or attack.
