Arjuna Breaks the Encirclement; Bhīma Reinforces
भारती भरतश्रेष्ठ सेना कृपणदर्शना । “भरतश्रेष्ठ खूनसे लथपथ हुई कौरव-सेना, जहाँकी खेती नष्ट हो गयी है उस भूमिके समान अत्यन्त दयनीय दिखायी देती है
bhāratī bharataśreṣṭha senā kṛpaṇadarśanā |
Sañjaya said: “O best of the Bharatas, the Kaurava army appears utterly pitiable—smeared with blood—like a tract of land whose cultivation has been destroyed.”
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the moral and human cost of war: even a mighty army becomes a pitiable sight when violence reduces it to bloodied ruin, reminding the listener of the destructive consequences of adharma-driven conflict.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Kaurava forces, battered in battle, look miserable and blood-smeared—likened to farmland whose crops and cultivation have been devastated.
