Sañjaya said: “With a noble resolve fixed upon battle, advance against Karṇa, the leader of the chariot-host. O best of chariot-warriors, behold: five hundred foremost chariot-fighters are coming—mighty and radiant—arrayed in close formation, O son of Kuntī, and they are accompanied by great masses of infantry as well.”
संजय उवाच
The verse emphasizes disciplined resolve and organized action in the face of danger: a ‘noble’ mind fixed on duty (yuddhe matiṁ kṛtvā) and a clear recognition of the enemy’s strength, urging courage without confusion.
Sañjaya reports battlefield developments and urges the addressed Pāṇḍava (Kaunteya) to confront Karṇa, noting that a formidable, well-organized force of five hundred elite chariot-warriors is advancing along with large infantry formations.
