युधिष्ठिरस्य धनंजय-प्रति गर्हा
Yudhiṣṭhira’s Reproach to Dhanaṃjaya
तस्या: पारमपारं च व्रजन्ति विजयैषिण:
tasyāḥ pāram apāraṃ ca vrajanti vijayaiṣiṇaḥ
Sañjaya said: Seeking victory, they press on to the far shore—and even beyond—of that perilous course, driven by the hunger to win, regardless of the limits that should restrain them.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how the pursuit of victory can push people beyond proper bounds—past the ‘far shore’ into the ‘shoreless’—suggesting an ethical warning against unchecked ambition that overrides restraint and dharma.
Sañjaya describes combatants (or agents in the conflict) as ‘victory-seekers’ who continue advancing relentlessly, implying that the momentum of war and the desire to win drives them beyond ordinary limits.
