Sañjaya said: The earth—together with mountains, trees, and oceans—seemed to reel; the sky, filled with winds and clouds, also appeared to whirl. Even the heavens, with the sun and moon, the planets, and the constellations, looked as though they were visibly spinning.

When adharma and uncontrolled violence dominate, the narrative frames it as disturbing not only human society but the cosmic order itself; the ‘whirling’ of earth and heavens functions as a moral warning that actions in war carry world-shaking consequences.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that terrifying portents appear: earth, sky, and even the celestial bodies seem to spin or reel, signaling the intensity and ominous turning-point nature of the fighting in the Karṇa Parva.
