Saṃśaptaka-Varūthinī Saṅgrāma — Binding and Counter-Binding (संशप्तक-वरूथिनी-संग्रामः)
न चेत् तदभिमन्येत पुरुषो<र्जुनदर्शिवान् अन्यं तस्मै वरं दद्यां यमसौ कामयेत् स्वयम्,“यदि अर्जुनको दिखानेवाला पुरुष उसे भी पर्याप्त न समझे तो मैं उसे दूसरा वर प्रदान करूँगा, जिसकी वह स्वयं इच्छा करे
na cet tad abhimanyeta puruṣo 'rjunadarśivān anyaṁ tasmai varaṁ dadyāṁ yamasau kāmayet svayam
Sañjaya said: “If the man who is able to show Arjuna should still not deem that sufficient, then I would grant him another boon—whatever he himself may desire.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical tension between contentment and desire: even after receiving an extraordinary opportunity (access to Arjuna), a person may still feel it insufficient; the speaker frames generosity as extending to whatever the recipient truly seeks, revealing how boons can feed further longing rather than end it.
In Sañjaya’s report, a conditional promise is stated: if the person capable of arranging a meeting/vision of Arjuna is not satisfied with that offer, then an additional boon will be granted—any boon the person personally chooses.
