Karna Reproves Shalya; Brahmin Reports on Bāhlīkas; Shalya’s Universalizing Rebuttal (कर्ण–शल्य संवादः)
प्रयत्नात् कुरुमुख्येन बृहस्पत्युशनोमते । वहाँ रातभर सुखसे रहे। फिर प्रसन्नतापूर्वक युद्धके लिये निकले। निकलकर उन्होंने देखा कि कुरुवंशके श्रेष्ठ पुरुष धर्मराज युधिष्छिरने बृहस्पति और शुक्राचार्यके मतके अनुसार प्रयत्नपूर्वक अपनी सेनाका दुर्जय व्यूह बना रखा है
prayatnāt kurumukhyena bṛhaspatyuśanomate |
Sañjaya said: With deliberate effort, the foremost of the Kurus arranged a formidable battle-formation in accordance with the strategic counsel associated with Bṛhaspati and Uśanas (Śukrācārya). Having spent the night in ease, they set out cheerfully for battle; and on going forth, they beheld that Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira had, with careful exertion, arrayed his army in an invincible formation following those very precepts.
संजय उवाच
Even in war, action is framed by disciplined effort and reliance on established counsel (nīti). The verse highlights that strategic planning—guided by authoritative traditions associated with Bṛhaspati and Uśanas—can coexist with the ethical identity of a ruler like Dharmarāja, underscoring responsibility and order amid violence.
Sañjaya reports that after a restful night the warriors go out for battle and observe that Yudhiṣṭhira has carefully arranged his army into a formidable, hard-to-break formation, following strategic principles linked to Bṛhaspati and Śukra.
