Śalya’s Objection to Sārathya and Duryodhana’s Conciliation (शल्यमन्यु-प्रशमनम् / Sārathyāṅgīkāra)
तत्राक्रन्दो महानासीत् पाण्डवानां विशाम्पते । दृष्टवा सेनापतिं यान्तं पञ्चालानां रथव्रजान्,प्रजानाथ! कौरव-सेनापति कर्णको पांचाल रथियोंकी ओर जाते देख पाण्डव- सैनिकोंमें महान् कोलाहल मच गया
tatrākrando mahān āsīt pāṇḍavānāṃ viśāmpate | dṛṣṭvā senāpatiṃ yāntaṃ pañcālānāṃ rathavrajān ||
Sañjaya said: “There arose a great outcry among the Pāṇḍavas’ forces, O lord of the people, when they saw the commander-in-chief, Karṇa, advancing toward the massed charioteers of the Pāñcālas.” The verse highlights the moral pressure of war: a famed leader’s move toward a key ally-host triggers fear, urgency, and the instinct to protect one’s own, showing how command decisions ripple through an army’s collective mind.
