Droṇa-parva Adhyāya 94: Sātyaki–Sudarśana Yuddha (सात्यकि–सुदर्शन युद्ध)

sañjaya uvāca | svenāstreṇa hataṃ dṛṣṭvā śrutāyudham arindamam, nareśvara! śatrudamana śrutāyudho 'peneha yuddham akurvataḥ śrīkṛṣṇasya prati gadāṃ mumoca; tasmād eṣā gadā svayam eva tam avadhīt iti matir abhavat |

Sañjaya said: O king, seeing the enemy-subduing Śrutāyudha slain by his own weapon, it became clear why this had happened. He had hurled his mace at Śrī Kṛṣṇa, who was not fighting; therefore that very mace turned back upon him and became the cause of his death. The episode underscores the moral recoil of violence directed at one who stands outside the combat.
