तेषां संयच्छतां संख्ये परस्परमजिह्ागै: । अर्जुनो ध्वजिनीं राजन्नभी क्ष्णं समकम्पयत्,राजन! उस युद्धस्थलमें कौरव-सैनिक एक-दूसरेको काबूमें रखनेका प्रयत्न करते थे और अर्जुन अपने बाणोंद्वारा उनकी सेनाको बारंबार कम्पित कर रहे थे
teṣāṁ saṁyacchatāṁ saṅkhye parasparam ajihāgaiḥ | arjuno dhvajinīṁ rājann abhīkṣṇaṁ samakampayat ||
Sañjaya said: As those warriors strove in the press of battle to restrain and steady one another, Arjuna, O King, again and again shook the Kaurava host—making their ranks tremble under the relentless force of his arrows.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the dharma of maintaining order and mutual support in crisis: armies survive through discipline and cohesion, yet righteous or superior skill (here Arjuna’s) can repeatedly test that stability. Ethically, it points to the tension between duty-bound resistance and the overwhelming consequences of martial excellence.
In the thick of combat, the Kaurava soldiers are trying to steady and control one another’s movements and keep formation, while Arjuna’s continuous volleys of arrows repeatedly shake and unsettle their entire host.
