Kṛtavarmā’s Stand against the Pāṇḍavas

अद्य गाण्डीवधन्वानं तपन्तं युद्धदुर्मदम्‌ । अहमावारयिष्यामि वेलेव मकरालयम्‌

adya gāṇḍīvadhanvānaṃ tapantaṃ yuddhadurmadam | aham āvārayiṣyāmi veleva makarālayam ||

“Today I shall check the wielder of the Gāṇḍīva—Arjuna—who burns with fierce battle-pride. I will hold him back, as the shoreline holds back the ocean, the abode of makaras.”
