Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Fainting and Questions Concerning Droṇa

Dhṛtarāṣṭra reflects with remorse: for a long time, out of smouldering resentment, he had inflicted only hardship upon the sons of Kuntī—men who did not deserve such suffering. Droṇācārya had silently endured that conduct; now Dhṛtarāṣṭra sees Droṇa’s death as the grim fruit of that very wrongdoing, returning as its consequence amid the war.

Wrongdoing toward the undeserving does not remain isolated; it ripens into consequences (karma-phala). Dhṛtarāṣṭra interprets Droṇa’s violent end as a moral repercussion linked to sustained injustice and the silent complicity that allowed it to continue.
In the aftermath of events surrounding Droṇa’s fall, Dhṛtarāṣṭra speaks in self-reproach. He recalls how the Pāṇḍavas were repeatedly subjected to suffering despite being undeserving, and he connects that history of harm and endurance to the present catastrophe—Droṇa’s death in the war.
