Dhṛtarāṣṭra–Sañjaya Dialogue: Praise of the Host and Inquiry after the Breach
विकोशान् सुत्सरूनन्ये कृतथारान् समाहितान् | पीतानाकाशसंकाशानसीन् केचिच्च चिक्षिपु:,कितने ही योद्धा आकाशके समान निर्मल पानीदार, सँभालकर रखी हुई, सुन्दर मूठ और तेजधारवाली तलवारोंको म्यानसे निकालकर चलाने लगे
vikośān sutsarūn anye kṛtathārān samāhitān | pītān ākāśa-saṅkāśān asīn kecic ca cikṣipuḥ ||
Sañjaya said: Others, fully composed and intent, drew from their scabbards swords with well-fashioned hilts and keen edges—bright and clear like the sky—and began to brandish them, signaling readiness for the grim duties of battle.
संजय उवाच
Even amid violence, the verse highlights samāhita—mental composure and disciplined readiness—showing how warriors frame action as duty performed with steadiness rather than uncontrolled rage.
Sañjaya describes warriors drawing and flourishing polished, sharp swords with fine hilts, indicating the army’s immediate preparation to engage in combat.
